![]() ![]() ![]() I felt like the story was a little too slow and I didn't really connect with the characters. While I really wanted to love this book, I didn't. ![]() ![]() I found this book very eye opening and I definitely think that between the gorgeous writing and the issues it addresses, this book is a must read for everyone! I also really liked that once we finally learnt what happened to Lydia, it represented a culmination of everyones own issues in one communal tragedy. Every action has a reaction, whether positive or negative. I think what I loved most about this book was that each character had their own issues personally, but together in a family setting, it really showed that we are all connected. But I also loved that these main issues were embodied by different characters throughout the story. This book also touches on some interesting topics, such as a mixed race family in a period where that was allowed but still looked at strangely, infidelity, the tragedy of losing a child and briefly, homosexuality in the late 1970s America. It was so beautifully crafted, carefully weaving together the stories of the past with the reality of coping with the death of a child. This book was so much more than I thought it would be. ![]()
