The theologians she reviews indicate the breadth of her enterprise and the sources of her own inspiration. Johnson grounds her thinking in the transcendence of God that cannot be captured in any one theology or by any one cultural group. The book provides an overview of theological highlights and contributions from major theologians. Johnson’s table of contents is a reliable outline of her book a real help for teachers or study groups who use The Quest for the Living God as I propose to do in an upper level undergraduate research seminar this fall. Distinguished, indeed! Written primarily for intelligent lay folk, the engaging style of this review of the last 50 years of Christian theology contains Johnson’s own insights couched in smooth, economic and yet elegant language with an occasional zinger that sums up a movement or an insight. Introduction - Dennis Altman, New York City, 1972 This non-profit Web site is intended to preserve the original content of The Gay Liberation Book, so that it is not lost to time. Attacks both physical and political are increasing against trans people. For example in Uganda, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Sudan death can be the punishment for LGBT people. The battle for LGBT rights continues to this day. Included here on this website are some of the original published works, including supplemental content not available elsewhere. It was first published in 1973, and has been out of print for many years. The Gay Liberation Book, is a seminal work of importance of its day, as well as an important part of gay history worthy of acknowledgement and preservation. Much original material was created and submitted for publication by these contributors that at that time included: John Lennon, Allen Ginsberg, Gore Vidal, and William Burroughs, among a host of others. Enter The Gay Liberation Book, edited by Gary Noguera and Len Richmond, who decided early in 1972 to approach celebrities and noteworthy personalities of the day to solicit content for a book, which quickly evolved into an anthology of pro-gay affirming essays, commentary, poetry, etc. In years following the New York Stonewall Riots, there was little pro-affirming LGBT literature available to the public. 5/21/2023 0 Comments The scarlet letter paperback~It’s All Been Done Before: The difficulty in reviewing a book under the category of Classic is that it feels like everyone’s already said what needed to be said. Hawthorne’s family history caused much of his interest in this time period, but his spiritual leanings toward the popular Transcendental movement precipitated this classic novel where oppression, injustice and intolerance – and their consequences – are explored in turn. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s most famous novel was published in 1850 and takes place in Puritan New England, focusing on a community where a beautiful young woman, Hester Prynne, and her illegitimate child are subject to persecution and ostracism while the mother refuses to name her co-conspirator in adultery, and the father of her child burns up with secret guilt and shame. His work is considered part of the Romantic movement and includes novels, short stories, and a biography of his friend, the United States President Franklin Pierce. Much of Hawthorne’s writing centers around New England and many feature moral allegories with a Puritan inspiration. He is seen as a key figure in the development of American literature for his tales of the nation’s colonial history. Nathaniel Hawthorne was a 19th century American novelist and short story writer. Publisher: Paperback: Penguin Classics and Audible: Cherry Hill Publishingįormat and Price: Paperback at $12.99 and Audible Book at $7.95 I felt like the story was a little too slow and I didn't really connect with the characters. While I really wanted to love this book, I didn't. I found this book very eye opening and I definitely think that between the gorgeous writing and the issues it addresses, this book is a must read for everyone! I also really liked that once we finally learnt what happened to Lydia, it represented a culmination of everyones own issues in one communal tragedy. Every action has a reaction, whether positive or negative. I think what I loved most about this book was that each character had their own issues personally, but together in a family setting, it really showed that we are all connected. But I also loved that these main issues were embodied by different characters throughout the story. This book also touches on some interesting topics, such as a mixed race family in a period where that was allowed but still looked at strangely, infidelity, the tragedy of losing a child and briefly, homosexuality in the late 1970s America. It was so beautifully crafted, carefully weaving together the stories of the past with the reality of coping with the death of a child. This book was so much more than I thought it would be. 5/21/2023 0 Comments Letters to a young poet rilkeIt is difficult to accurately explain the powers of transcendence contained in these letters. With powerful prose that often reaches the same sublime peaks found in his poetry, these magnanimous, heart-felt letters are some the most empowering words of wisdom into undertaking of the arts as well as an impressive portrait of Rilke himself. Rilke advises that ‘ a work of art is good if it has risen out of necessity’, that they must feel they ‘ would have to die if you were forbidden to write.’ From there, he instructs towards the soul-searching life of solitude which best cultivates the artists gift. ‘ Dig into yourself for a deep answer,’ he tells the young poet, ‘ and if this answer rights out in assent, if you meet this solemn question with a strong, simple “I must”, then build your life in accordance with this necessity.’ Letters To A Young Poet, written between 1903-08, contains some of the most passionately moving words of encouragement and examination into the life of an artist. Rainer Maria Rilke puts forth the question ‘ must I write?’ in these letters from the great poet to the unknown Mr. ‘ Go into yourself and see how deep the place is from which your life flows.’ Momentan titlul A Brief Illustrated History of Romanians nu este disponibil însa vă puteți înscrie pentru a fi notificat în momenul reaprovizionarii.
